New insulation in Reston attic

This customer in Reston called about rodents in their attic and some issues with uneven temperatures throughout their home. Carl Depner went out to do an inspection and identified several potential services to help with the situation. A removal of all old fiberglass insulation was done along with removing any existing rodents and or waste. The floor of the attic was air sealed to help keep conditioned air inside the living space of the home, MoldX fogging spray was done to help reduce the possibility of mold in the future and the entire attic was covered in TruSoft Cellulose insulation. This will all help to better control the temperature inside of the home and reduce the possibility of rodents returning to the attic.

Cellulose Attic Insulation

A home in Reston, VA had old, yucky, and inefficient insulation in their attic. When an attic isn't properly insulated, several issues can occur including uneven temperatures, drafty rooms, and overworked HVAC systems. The Comfenergy team removed and properly disposed of all of the old insulation. Next, they air-sealed the attic floor with spray foam. And, finally, they installed blown-in Cellulose insulation into the attic. Now this homeowner has a more comfortable home that costs less to own.

Reston, VA Attic Transformation

This Reston, VA home had comfort issues with rooms that got too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter.  Our sales professional Eric met with the homeowner to perform a full home inspection and find out why and try to identify a solution.  Eric was able to show the homeowners that the primary cause of their discomfort was the attic’s lack of air sealing and low R value insulation. He determined that the best course of action would be to completely air seal and insulate the attic with ZypFoam air sealant and new top-of-the-line TruSoft cellulose insulation. After the homeowners agreed to Eric’s solution one of our service crews went out to get to work on the home. The crew started by removing and disposing of the old ineffective insulation that had been the primary cause of the original discomfort. After that, they applied ZypFoam air sealant to all of the gaps in the attic floor. This sealed any potential leaks that could have led to uncontrolled unconditioned air seeping out from the attic and into the living spaces. Finally, the crew installed the new TruSoft cellulose insulation to keep the home comfortable year-round.

Reston VA Cantilever Dense Pack

An uninsulated cantilever can lead to cold floors in a home. In a home with a cantilever, the rooms inside can react to outdoor temperatures when air is able to freely pass in and out of the cantilever, resulting in cold during the winter and heat during the summer.  This type of comfort issue can result in higher than needed electric bills if the homeowner is relying on their HVAC unit to solve the problem but turning the heat up or the AC down.  Dense packing the cantilever happens by cutting access holes and packing them with insulation.

Reston VA Attic Insulation and Air Seal

This Reston VA home was uncomfortable for the homeowner year round.  In the winter months the home was too cold and in warmer months the home was too hot.  Our clients decided to go with our recommendation to upgrade the condition of their attic, including removal of the old insulation, removal of and then covering over an existing attic fan hole, air sealing the floor of the attic and then covering it all with blown in Tru Soft cellulose insulation.  This will keep the conditioned air created by the HVAC system in the rooms it is intended to heat or cool and make the temperature of the home more even from one area of the home to another.  It will also help to reduce the energy costs to live in the home.
