Oakton VA Attic Insulation Paneling (Silver Glo)

Often attic spaced needs to be used as storage. When that is the case, traditional bat insulation or blown in cellulose insulation won't do the trick. We offer Silver Glo panel insulation to cover walls, corners and the underside of roofs so that the area below is left accessible and usable.  This tiny room off of the main attic space in this Oakton VA home was treated with Silver Glo panels and therefore remained open for use by the homeowner if needed for storage. Zyp Foam was used to air seal the seams of the Silver Glo panels.

Oakton VA attic Insulation Project

There are many steps to any attic project that we work on.  More than just "before" and "after", there is also in "between" and "in progress".  This Oakton VA home had rooms that were not always comfortable year round.  Our Home Performance Sales Pro Greg went out to visit the homeowners and perform a no cost home inspection after they called us about their rooms being too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter.  In addition to several other services, this client decided to have their old attic insulation removed so that we could air seal the cracks, gaps and openings in the attic that were allowing conditioned air to escape the rooms below, before we would then blow in Tru Soft cellulose insulation to cover the attic surface and properly insulate the space.    Here is what the attic looked like to start and what it looked like after we removed the old insulation and prepared to air seal.

Oakton Virginia Attic Air Seal and Insulation

This home in Oakton Virginia had a living room that was too cold in the winter and upstairs rooms that we too hot in the summer. Our Certified Home Performance Sales Pro Jason was able to discover how to fix those comfort issues.  In addition to adding a radiant barrier to the attic ceiling, he realized the old insulation needed to be removed so that the attic flooring could be air sealed with Zyp Foam.  After everything was done, the conditioned air inside of the rooms below will now stay there, making the home more comfortable and with more even temperatures.

Oakton Virginia Spray Foam Insulation

An unfinished basement can offer an easy solution to help make your home more comfortable, have better air quality and lower energy bills.  Spray foam insulation can help to create and air seal along with the insulation value when applied to the rim joists of a home.  This keeps external air and temperatures from entering the home and can help to lock in conditioned air that heats and or cools your home.  We removed the existing fiberglass insulation squares in this Oakton Virginia home.

Oakton Virginia Spray Foam Duct Encapsulation

This home in Oakton Virginia had high energy bills from constantly running the heating and cooling system for the home at different times of year.  After a free home performance evaluation it was determined to be partially due to the HVAC duct system. Metal duct work ran through the attic.  In the summer this attic could get up to 130 degrees and in the winter the temperature could drop to 10 degrees.  Pumping hot air through a cold metal duct in the winter resulted in the air cooling as it travelled through the ducts and not being able to heat the rooms of the home as well as needed.  Pumping cold air through a hot metal duct system in the summer resulted in air that was not as cold as it needed to be to cool off the rooms in the home.

Spray foam encapsulation of the duct systems creates and sealed and safe environment for the conditioned air to travel through and helps that air maintain its intended temperature.
