Any proper attic insulation project should include air sealing. Often times we find clients who previously worked with other companies and the only thing they did was add insulation on top of what was originally there. We make sure to take the extra time and remove existing insulation so that we can use Zyp Foam to seal up all of the gaps, cracks and seams in the attic floor. This helps prevent conditioned air loss from the rooms below, making homes more comfortable and energy efficient. After air sealing, we blow in new Tru Soft cellulose insulation.
In addition to air sealing and insulation the surface of this Annandale VA attic, we needed to treat the walls too. Removing the old traditional batt insulation was step one. We then used the orange ZypFoam to seal up and cracks or places when air could come in our out. Afterwards we cut SilverGlo insulation panels to fit the wall and then used ZypFoam again to seal that. When the sun hits the outside of this home, this wall will keep the heat from building up on =side of the attic.
This Occoquan VA home was found to have small amounts of mold behind some existing insulation. We were tasked with removing the insulation in with the intent to replace it with a better quality product that would bring better results. Before we could do so we had to treat the small amounts of mold with botanical spray. It is a food grade mixture that is not harmful to people or pets but will kill and stop the spread of mold if caught early. Here our technician is administering the botanical spray after the initial removal of the old insulation.
The existing insulation in Falls Church, VA was piled deep, but there was air leakage, non-consistent coverage, low spots, and it was just nasty!!!
We removed all of the old insulation, air sealed any leakage points, and blew in new TruSoft blown-in cellulose insulation for a nice, thick, even coverage.
This home in Springfield VA had a large, open attic space along with several knee walls that were ineffectively insulated and leading to poor home performance. The HVAC system was working harder than it needed to in order to keep pumping conditioned air into rooms that were not air sealed or insulated and therefore allowing that conditioned air to escape. This lead to increased energy costs for the homeowner and changing levels of comfort from one room in the house to another. After calling us for help, the homeowners received a free Home Performance inspection and we determined what solutions would help. In addition to air sealing the entire attic and using Silver Glo insulation panels to insulate the knee walls, we removed the existing insulation and blew in Tru Soft cellulose insulation to fill the attic to its needed R Value to properly insulate.
